So you've conquered the Sanetti Plateau and trekked the Harenna Forest... but your adventure doesn't have to end there!
Prepare to be awestruck. The Sof Omar Caves are not just a geological wonder; they are one of Ethiopia's most important Islamic pilgrimage sites. The Web River has carved a breathtaking 15km-long labyrinth through limestone, creating colossal caverns and arched portals. Local tradition says the site was named after Sheikh Sof Omar, who took refuge here to pray.
🌟 Why it's special: It's a surreal combination of natural grandeur and deep spiritual significance. Walking through the vast "Chamber of Columns" feels like stepping into a cathedral built by nature.
📍 Practicalities: Located about 110km from Goba. The drive is part of the adventure. You'll need a scout/guide from the village to explore the caves. The walk is relatively easy and suitable for most.
